9 Years and Summer Fun!

A few days ago, Brock and I celebrated our 9 year anniversary.  I truly cannot believe we have been married for that long already.  It really doesn't feel like that long ago when we got married!  We still lay in bed most nights and laugh - "Who gave us 2 kids and a house?!"  Time goes so fast.  We watched our wedding video this morning with the kids, and when I put it in the DVD player, it said 'incompatible format' - well if that doesn't make ya feel old!!  Our wedding video is too old to play in our DVD player!  So we had to break out the VHS instead.  :)  Of course, Mia LOVED it.  She wanted to watch all 2.5 hours of it again after it had ended.  We told her another day.  :)  All she talked about all day was getting married.  "I'm going to get married in 10 weeks." "Mom, I changed my mind, I'm getting married today."  Drake said "Mommy, you're Cinderella!" (even though it came out 'Cindawewah')  We had such a fun day and were reminded how blessed we are to have each other and our little ones.

A few other funnies - in the video, the videographer asked Brock how he proposed.  When he said he wrote "Will you marry me?" with lipstick on the mirror, Mia said, "Daddy!  We never, EVER write with lipstick on the mirror!  Why would you do that?"  She didn't let him live it down, mentioning it several more times this morning!!  Then she said, "Mom, I'm going upstairs to get a skirt on my head."  I was like, huh??  So she came down with a tulle skirt on her head with the front pulled over her face like a veil.  Too funny, that one.  :)

Brock's had this week off, so it's been awesome.  We took the kids up to Chicago and planned on going to the aquarium.  The line was pretty long, so we ended up at the Field Museum instead with the dinosaurs.  They probably would have liked the aquarium better, but they still had fun.  Then we spent the night at my Aunt Michele's and went to the Dunes the next day.  Man did they have a good time!!  I thought we were going to have to drag them off the beach when it was time to go home.  They are at such great ages for doing fun things, it's really the first summer we've gotten to do a few things like this.

At the museum, I learned that some dinosaurs are called ‘therapods’ – I learned that from Mia!  I looked it up, and she is right!  Ha!IMG_0619

Ha!  Drake picked a bunch of blueberries, but they ended up in his mouth instead of his carton – this was about 20 minutes into picking – notice his carton is still empty.  He was eating them ALLIMAG0010

A few other funnies I remembered – the other day we were driving, and Drake says, “Mom, why did you stop?”  I told him, “Because we’re at a red light.  Red means stop, green means go, and yellow means slow down.”  Mia says, “Mom, yellow doesn’t mean slow down.  It means ‘Proceed with caution.’” Oh.  Ha!

The day we left from the beach, we stopped out to eat, and there weren’t many choices for the kids.  We just decided to get them grilled cheese, which they rarely have.  Drake kept saying, “I don’t want that!”  I was like, “Buddy, you don’t even know what grilled cheese tastes like – you’ll like it.”  He says, “I don’t want girl cheese, I want boy cheese!”  Thankfully, he really liked his boy cheese.   :)

Ok, one more and then I’m done.  Brock and my dad went golfing this week, and Drake said, “Mom, I really want to golfing with Daddy and Papa.”  I told him when he is older, he can go with them.  He said, “Mom, widdle guys can do big fings, too.”  I could just eat that little guy up.  :)

Thanks for stopping by!!  I’ll have some pictures soon of Brock and my little anniversary getaway to Chicago!!

Drake, you are getting on my nerds!

Yes, Mia has still been quite the character lately.  More than once recently, that’s what we hear her telling Drake: “You’re getting on my nerds!”  It makes me laugh every time.  I told her once that it’s ‘nerves’ not ‘nerds,’ and she told me I was wrong.  “That’s what they say in Toy Story, Mom.”  Ok.

A few weeks ago, we were walking out of the store as another family was walking in.  Mia says, "Mommy, those people have 3 children - one older girl, one little boy, and a baby. I sure hope they don't have a dog at home. That would just be too much to take care of."  Ha!

School is out for the summer, we start swim lessons soon!  I’m hoping that goes well, she’s a little unpredictable in new situations.  Keeping my fingers crossed!

And the most exciting news yet – my sister Katie had her baby last weekend!!!  Little Mason Daniel was born last Saturday, 6lbs 3 oz.  Here are few hospital pictures, I got to see him very shortly after he was born.  Auntie Angie has already taken his newborn photos yesterday, I can’t wait to work on those!

Introducing Mason!

He is so, so sweet!  We’re so very excited they live down the street, we’ve gotten to see them close to every day since they’ve been home.  Mia loves babies, and she just loves being around him.  Congrats Katie and Tony!!

Here are a few photos from the past month -

She’s getting good at making pictures – I thought this one was hilarious… she told me the strawberry-looking part is a garbage truck, and in the back is all the garbageIMG_8388

One day she had written out all her letters on the doodler and came to show me.  Not too bad!!IMG_8688

A couple of weeks ago, I took them to the zoo by myself for the first time.  No diaper bag, no stroller – FREEDOM!  We are movin’ up in the world!  We had such a great time – we got there at about 11 and stayed until 3 – needless to say, they were wiped out!!IMG_9883

A couple other quick funnies – on Mother’s Day, we had my family over for dinner.  When my dad walked in, Drake said, “Happy Mother’s Day, Papa!”

Also, Mia is still her exacting self – there is not much room for error in her world.  The other day she yells for me from upstairs, “Mom! There was a jammie shirt in my daytime clothes drawer! I think you guys put it in there because it has short sleeves. But it doesn't go in there!”  Oh my.

We are finally enjoying some warm weather - hope your summer is off to a great start! Thanks for stopping by!
