I seriously still can't believe this happened, but unfortunately it did. Yesterday while Mia was at preschool napping, her teacher tripped and stepped on Mia's leg, breaking it. I know, it is unbelievable. The worst part is that the school didn't call me. They thought she was fine because it wasn't swollen too badly, and they said after they consoled her, she fell back asleep. Still not sure whether I entirely believe that or not. Regardless, it makes me sick thinking she was laying there for an hour with a broken leg and I didn't know about it. Brock and I are still working through all those emotions.
We took her to the ER as soon as we could (I can't imagine a worse place to bring a 2 year old OR her germ-a-phobe mother) where they x-rayed her leg and told us it was broken all the way across the lower part of her tibia (the bone on your lower leg). The put her in a splint up to her thigh, and thankfully we were able to meet with orthopaedics today where they got her in a cast. She has a cast on her entire leg. Thankfully the break missed her growth plate by about an inch, because that could have caused long-term growth problems. She will be in this cast for 4 weeks, and then possibly a lower-leg cast (where she will at least be able to bend her knee) after that. She won't be able to move around by herself - I will have to carry her around the house. I seriously THANK GOD that it did not hit her growth plate and also that Drake can walk on his own so we don't have 2 babies to carry around all day.
As you can imagine, the ER visit and getting the cast on were very traumatic for Mia. She hurt every time they moved her foot, it was so terrible and sad. Fortunatley, she is much better with the cast on because her leg is completely stabilized and not moving around. In true Mia fashion, she picked out a pink cast. :)
Today my mom and I got her several new toys she can basically play with on her lap (and my mom bought a nice little tray she can play on), so she is enjoying that right now! She has already figured out how to scoot around the room with her "good leg" as she calls it. :) She was a trooper this afternoon, back to her normal, active self, just dragging her little leg around. Here are some pics of my poor baby girl...

All the doctors and nurses were getting a kick out of her little red toenails...

Back to her normal self this evening, making faces in the mirror :)

Isn't it amazing when you are a parent that you would rather be injured a million times over if it meant that your kids didn't have to hurt? I'm thankful that her pain seems to be minimal right now, it's all just going to be a matter of keeping her occupied for the next month when she can't do much of anything for herself! We'll see how it goes! Hopefully the new puzzles, coloring books, play-doh, and crayons will help!
