Happy Halloween!

I just thought I'd post a few pics of the kids in their costumes. They had so much fun trick-or-treating! Mia was of course Tinkerbell (complete with blush, eyeshadow, and lipgloss), and Drake was a monkey...

Mia got her short cast on Tuesday. It is much easier to manage! Next Tuesday (about a week and a half from now) she will get it off. I'll have to get a photo of it - this time she wanted a green cast, and the guy wrapped it with glow-in-the-dark stripes, too. :)

One quick funny story - tonight we went to Qdoba for dinner, and Brock asked me what I wanted for dinner. Suddenly Mia chimes in, "I'll do a chai tea latte." Ha! We were cracking up. :) Happy Halloween!

Happy Birthday to my Hubby!

Well, I'm a day late on my blog, but yesterday was Brock's birthday! Katie and Tony watched our kids for us, and Brock and I got to go out to dinner and a movie. It was so nice to get out alone! We had such a good time. I just love hanging out with him. :)

Mia has been hilarious lately. I'm trying to remember all the funny things she's done lately. This week I was coming back from somewhere, and I was unloading everything from the car. I hear Drake crying and went to check out what was going on. Mia goes, "I took his shoes off, mom, but he was NOT cooperating!" His shoes weren't even undone, I think she just pulled them off his feet. I can't imagine why he wasn't cooperating - ha!

I'll have pictures soon, sorry I don't have any at the moment. How boring. :)

Just pics

Here are some recent pics. We took the kids to Stony Creek Farm for their fall festival. Mia got to ride a pony for the first time, even with her broken leg! The rest are just kind of random. :)

Drake keeps making us laugh. He loves eating with a fork and gets such a kick when he actually gets something on the end by himself. He's been doing lots of new things, I love watching him learn! Just in the past week, he started saying cracker, uh-oh (when he drops something), ball, and bath. When we turn on music, he starts jamming and then spinning in circles with the biggest grin on his face. The funniest part is that he 'leads' with his arm across his body when he's spinning around. He makes himself so dizzy that he can't even walk, it's hilarious! :)

Mia's still scooting around! Next Tuesday we go back for (hopefully!) a smaller cast, below the knee. Not too much else new, just trying to keep these little guys busy! They've been playing really sweet together, thank goodness!

Happy Birthday, Baby!

Today Drake is 1! I can't believe that it's already been a year. I remember the day I went into labor and had him like it was yesterday, it boggles my mind it was already a year ago. Happy Birthday, Drake, my most favorite little man!

Food Rescue

Brock and I have been part of an organization for about a year and a half called Food Rescue. The Food Rescue program organizes volunteers to pick up food at the end of the day from places like Panera Bread and Paradise Bakery (breads, bagels, cookies, etc.). The volunteers then drive the food, food that would otherwise have been thrown away, to local food pantries. The Food Rescue program is in need of more volunteers right now. They only ask that you commit to volunteering one night a month. They started on the northside of Indy but are now in 18 different states, so even if you aren't in Indy, there still might be a chapter in your area. I know they definitely need more volunteers in the Indianapolis area, so if you might be able to help, check the Food Rescue website (click here for link) for volunteer opportunities. It's such a small commitment (it honestly takes Brock or I a total of one hour once a month), and we've seen firsthand people and families with small children coming to the food pantry to pick up the food we've delivered. Please check it out if you think you might be able to help! :)

Lookin' good!

We went to the doctor on Tuesday for Mia, and they did x-rays to make sure her bones are still lined up properly inside her cast. Fortunately, he said everything is looking good, so we didn't have to re-cast her. Thank goodness! I don't think all the Dum Dum suckers in the world would have calmed her down if she had to get another full-leg cast on!

She's moving really well around the house. She can even get up the stairs by herself! And today she pulled herself up onto the ottoman to sit. It's really pretty amazing to watch how she's adapted to using one leg to maneuver herself around.

Still as girly as ever - she had to wear her dress, fairy wings, and fairy skirt. When she was done getting dressed, she said, "Now I just need some lip gloss." :)

Sharing an apple together :)

A birthday, an update, and lots of pics!

Mia is doing really well getting around the house with her cast. She scoots all around to get where she wants to go. She plays with Drake just like she did (rough!) before she was hurt. She did tell Brock today, "Daddy, I don't want to go to school anymore." He said, "What if we find you a new school?" She goes, "Ok, and maybe the teacher won't step on me?" So sad! We had already made the decision not to send her back to her school, so while she is healing I am going to look for another preschool. We go back to the orthopaedic doctor tomorrow to make sure her bones are still aligned properly inside the cast (they will just take an x-ray). Hopefully everything looks good, otherwise they will have to re-cast her. I'm hoping for the best. :)

We had Drake's 1st birthday party this weekend! My parents will be out of town near his actual birthday (Oct 13th), so we had it a little early. We had a great time - I think Mia enjoyed it most of all, though. Drake didn't really know what was going on, but Mia sure loved all his new toys!

Drake is still sweet as ever. Lately when I pick him up, he'll lay his head on my shoulder and pat my back. Talk about wanting to melt! He roars when you ask him what a lion says, imitates you when you sneeze, and he points up at the lights and says "Yite!" He is such a sweet little cuddle bug and is at such a fun age!
Here are lots of pics from the last few weeks. The first ones are obviously from before Mia got hurt.

Our friends Amy and Ty stayed with us Friday night. Our kids got to play with their little guy Asher, who is too cute!! Here's Drake and Asher pushing the shopping cart!
Drake all ready for his first birthday bash...

The bows on the gifts are so much fun! Who needs toys?!
Mia showing Drake the ropes of opening gifts...

"Thanks, everyone. I appreciate it!!"

Sitting with his new loot...

This was cracking us up - Drake knows the sign language for "more" - He usually only does it when we're feeding him and he wants more, but after he opened all his gifts, he was telling us "more!"

My little Mia, still pushing her brother around even with a bum leg...

Definitely not fond of the squishy icing...

(pics out of order, sorry) Blowing out the candle with Daddy
High five!
