Tub Water... Good for the Soul??

Here are a few new videos of Mia. The first one was taken after we put on her new pj's. She loves checkin' herself out in the mirror! While I was taping her, I flipped the viewer so she could see herself, and she obviously got a kick out of that, too!

This next one is of her licking tub water - gross. :)

Lately she has been requesting songs in the car. For a while, it was "Hey There Delilah" ("De-yi-ya" as Mia says). Then it was "Big Girls Don't Cry" by Fergie. That little girl can groove in her carseat! Whenever that song came on, she would clap her hands in the air and bop her head around - it was hilarious! For the past two days, she won't let us listen to anything but "Teardrops on My Guitar" by Taylor Swift. I literally have to go through all the tracks on my cd, and she says "No, no" to all of them until I get to her new favorite song. When she hears the first couple of notes, she gets the biggest grin on her face and that little head gets boppin' - it cracks me up every time! Then when it ends, she says "More, more." But I seriously listened to that song about 7 times today. I'm hoping this week she'll come up with a new favorite!

And the Gender Is...

Well last night we had a little bit of a scare with my pregnancy. I went on a walk and suddenly felt like my water had broken, although I knew it is far too early for that to happen. I immediately went home, and though I'll spare you the details, suffice it to say there was A LOT of blood. I felt completely normal otherwise, but of course called the doctor right away. She said since I wasn't experiencing any cramping or other pains, she wasn't too worried even though I had lost a lot of blood. But she wanted me to come in today for an ultrasound to find the cause. The first ultrasound was a little inconclusive, so they sent me to a high risk doctor. She also performed an ultrasound and found that I have a subchorionic hematoma, which basically means part of my placenta has pulled away from my uterus. As scary as that sounds, she says the good news is that this condition usually remedies itself within a couple of weeks. So although we were pretty shaken up about the ordeal last night, she wasn't overly concerned about what was going on. She said the baby looked great, which was a huge relief for us. The upside to all this was that we got to see the baby again, and they could tell that we are having a BOY!! We are so excited. Brock couldn't wipe the smile off his face when they told us, it was so cute! Now he'll have his princess and his boy! I guess our instincts were right about this one, we've felt it was going to be a boy all along! It is weird to think about having a boy, though - I only know how to take care of a girl!! I guess I'll figure it out! :) Anyways, I go back to the "high risk" doctor in a month to see if the condition has resolved itself, and I guess we'll take it from there. In the meantime, they said I can't do laundry, vacuum, etc. (oh, shucks) and that I also have to be really cautious about lifting Mia. Mia's Surgery Scheduled

Most of you know that Mia was born with a cyst in her upper lip area. It was hardly ever noticable until recently, when it appeared to grow and sometimes leak. After consultations with a pediatric dermatologist at Riley and a plastic surgeon, we have decided to have it removed. Today we had a follow up appointment with the plastic surgeon who will be performing Mia's surgery. (He's so funny because he said he seriously doesn't want to be the one to have to cut into her pretty little face.) It is scheduled for Thursday, May 1st. The surgery should only last about 30 minutes, but they will have to put her under so recovery time will be longer. The doctor said she will have a visible scar for 1-1/2 to 2 years. That thought definitely makes me sick to my stomach, but then I have to put everything into perspective and remember there are far worse things. We are just praying that the surgery goes smoothly and that she heals quickly. I'm not sure how well she'll do with a piece of tape over those stitches on her upper lip, though - she's not going to be too happy about that! We'll keep you posted on how her surgery goes.

Fun with a Spray Bottle

Mia continues to give us things to laugh about! :) Today she grabbed the spray bottle and thought it would be great fun to spray herself in the face. You can take a look at the video to see what I mean.

She is really into changing her babies' diapers nowadays, she even asks for the wipes and the "butt paste" after she lays out the blanket to change them on. Today after she changed her babies' diapers, she decided she wanted to put a diaper on over her own pj's. She ran around like this all morning. Every time I tried to take it off, she laid down so I could put it back on. Go figure - she usually doesn't even want us to put on her regular diaper. I tell people all the time she is a really goofy child - here's proof in pictures and videos! :)

Baby Update... And an Earthquake?!?!

Yesterday I had my 13 week checkup at the doctor. The doctor said everything looked good, and the baby's heartbeat was still 160. It is so great to hear that little heart beating. I go back on May 21st for my next appointment and for our ultrasound where we'll hopefully find out whether it's a girl or boy!! So far, so good!

You may have heard (or even felt it), but there was an earthquake this morning! At about 5:30 a.m., the house started shaking and things on top of our nightstand started rattling. It even woke up Brock, who doesn't wake up for much! It seemed to last a long time, but in reality it was probably less than 10 or 15 seconds. This morning I saw that even my lip balm had rolled off the nightstand. It was so crazy - there are definitely not too many earthquakes in Indiana!

Mia is doing great, she's just her crazy self! She is loving this great weather and getting to be outside. We were thankfully able to get her off her night bottle recently - so happy about that! She is totally done with bottles now. She is also still talking up a storm. She knows so many words, it is amazing. It's so true when people say they are little sponges. This morning we were walking downstairs and the sun had gotten in her eyes. Immediately she said, "bright!" I didn't even know she knew that word. That's it for now - we'll post again soon! :)

Ahhhh, the Park!

Since the weather has warmed up, Mia has been more than excited to go outside (so have I!). We have a park just down the street from our house, and Mia has been there 5 times in the last 3 days. She loves it. She wakes up in the morning asking to go on the 'yide' (that's the slide, in case you don't have a one year old...). I think 'ask' is too calm a word, though. It's more like 'Yide! Yide! Yide!' while she tries to open the front door. Tonight before dinner, I told her we could go to the park as soon as I finished cleaning up the kitchen. I guess that wasn't soon enough for her. She brought me my boots (so I put them on to appease her for the moment), attempted to zip them up, and then proceeded to open the garage door. This girl knows what she wants!! It was hilarious. Needless to say, we went to the park.

On another note, she seems to be much more aware when her diaper is dirty. Lately she has been saying "poopie!", then puts her changing pad on the ground and lays down on it so I can change her. And it's gotten even better the last couple of days... she tells me "poopie" before she goes, so I sit her on her potty seat, which she loves. Nothing has happened yet, but I'm hoping she's becoming more aware of when she needs to sit on the potty. Now I know this isn't very interesting, and probably disgusting, for most of you, but if you have small children, you know how exciting the thought of your child actually going on the potty instead of in the diaper is! I'm sure it will still be a while being as she's not even 16 months, but I'll take any little step in that direction she wants to make! Sorry if this is too much information for you, but it's a very exciting thing in the Vaughters house right now!

She's still calling me 'Ang' from time to time, which is still funny. Today my mom was holding her in the store and Mia was trying to get my attention to show me this rocket ship rocking chair. I hear this little voice say 'Ang!' while she's pointing to the rocket ship. It was pretty funny.

A Day at the Zoo!

Today couldn't have been more perfect outside, and we decided to take Mia to the zoo. She loved being outside and watching all the people (and the animals, when she could spot them!). She especially loved watching the elephants drink their water! She even got to ride the carousel with Daddy. Here are some photos and a video with some clips from our day -

Needless to say, she was tuckered out at the end of the day and went to bed early!! But not before she shared a Reese's Fast Break bar with Daddy! Of course we do not give our child candy bars on a regular basis, but when she gets a taste of one, she thinks it is the best thing ever. Here is a funny video of her with Daddy's Reese's -
